Description
The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) is South Africa's national standards body, headquartered in Groenkloof, Pretoria. Established in 1945 and now governed by the Standards Act, it develops, publishes and maintains South African National Standards (SANS) and represents the country in international standards organisations such as ISO and IEC. The SABS provides product testing in laboratories covering chemicals, electrical and electronic goods, mechanical and materials engineering, food and other consumer products. It also offers product certification, including the well-known SABS mark of approval, and management-system certification for quality, environmental and safety standards. Manufacturers, importers, exporters and government buyers rely on SABS services to show that products meet local and international requirements. Businesses and members of the public can contact the SABS by phone or email for standards sales, testing, certification and general enquiries.
