Description

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) is the national electricity transmission utility of Ghana, with its head office in Tema. It was established in 2006 under the Energy Commission Act and began operations in 2008, taking over the transmission functions previously handled by the Volta River Authority. GRIDCo owns and operates Ghana's high-voltage transmission network, which carries power from generating stations such as Akosombo, Kpong, Bui and thermal plants to bulk customers including the Electricity Company of Ghana, NEDCo and large mines and industries. As system operator, it manages real-time dispatch, grid stability and power exchanges with neighbouring countries through the West African Power Pool. The company also plans and builds new substations and transmission lines to expand and strengthen the grid. Utilities, investors and the public can reach GRIDCo by phone or email for enquiries.
