Description
Debswana Diamond Company is the world's leading producer of diamonds by value and one of the most important companies in Botswana's economy. It is a joint venture owned equally by the Government of Botswana and the De Beers Group, formed in 1969. Its corporate centre is on Airport Road in Gaborone, and it operates the Jwaneng and Orapa mines, including the Letlhakane and Damtshaa operations in the Orapa area. Jwaneng is often described as the richest diamond mine in the world. Debswana mines rough diamonds that are sorted and sold through partners in Botswana, and it invests in health, education, local suppliers and community projects through programmes such as its citizen economic empowerment policy. The company also runs the Orapa Game Park and the Adrian Gale Museum. Debswana publishes media releases, tenders and career opportunities on its website.
