Description
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is the federal government agency that owns and manages the country's seaports, with its headquarters at 26/28 Marina on Lagos Island. Established in 1955, it oversees the Lagos Port Complex at Apapa, Tin Can Island Port, Onne and Rivers ports in the east, Delta ports at Warri and Calabar Port, as well as newer deep-sea facilities such as Lekki Deep Sea Port. Under the landlord port model, NPA leases terminals to private operators while handling harbour and channel management, pilotage, marine safety, port security and the provision of infrastructure. It also sets and collects port charges, publishes shipping positions and tenders, and works to cut cargo dwell times through electronic call-up and port community systems. Shipping lines, importers, exporters and freight agents can reach the authority's Lagos headquarters by phone or through its general information email.
