SNCFT – Railway Company in Tunis

SNCFT (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Tunisiens) is Tunisia's national railway company, with its headquarters at 67 Avenue Farhat Hached in Tunis. Founded in 1956, shortly after independence, it operates passenger and freight services on a network linking Tunis with cities such as Bizerte, Sousse, Monastir, Sfax, Gabès, Gafsa and Tozeur. Passenger services include air-conditioned intercity trains, the busy Tunis southern suburbs line and the Sahel metro line serving Sousse, Monastir and Mahdia. On the freight side, SNCFT carries phosphates from the mining basin of Gafsa as well as cereals, fuel, construction materials and containers. The company sells tickets at stations and online and publishes timetables and service updates. It is investing in new rolling stock and network upgrades.
