Description
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) is the Tanzanian government body that manages the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Arusha Region of northern Tanzania. The area is famous for the Ngorongoro Crater, a huge volcanic caldera that is home to lions, elephants, buffalo, rhinos and large herds of wildebeest and zebra, as well as the Olduvai Gorge, where important early human fossils were found. Unusually, the conservation area allows Maasai pastoralists to live alongside wildlife, and the authority balances conservation, tourism and community development. NCAA sets entry and crater service fees, issues permits, manages gates such as Loduare and Naabi Hill, and maintains roads, campsites and visitor facilities. It also runs geopark and cultural heritage programmes. Tour operators and visitors can contact the head office or the information office in Arusha by phone or email.
