Description
Rhodes University is a public university in Makhanda, formerly Grahamstown, in South Africa's Eastern Cape. Established in 1904, it is one of the country's oldest universities and is known for its compact, residential campus, small class sizes and high graduation rates. Rhodes offers undergraduate and postgraduate study through faculties of commerce, education, humanities, law, pharmacy and science, and it is particularly well regarded for journalism and media studies, the life sciences, music and environmental research. The university also hosts several national research chairs and institutes, and student life centres on its residences, societies and sports clubs. Makhanda itself is famous for the annual National Arts Festival, which gives students a lively cultural setting. Prospective students, parents and partners can contact the university switchboard or communications office for information on admissions, courses and campus visits.
