Description

The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is the government agency responsible for managing Uganda's wildlife and protected areas, with its head office on Kira Road in Kamwokya, Kampala. Created in 1996, it looks after the country's national parks and wildlife reserves, including Bwindi Impenetrable, Mgahinga Gorilla, Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley and Lake Mburo national parks. UWA issues mountain gorilla and chimpanzee tracking permits, sets park entry fees and manages ranger-guided activities such as game drives, boat trips, nature walks and mountain hiking. It also protects wildlife through ranger patrols, anti-poaching work, community conservation programmes and research. Tour operators and travellers book permits and park activities through the reservations office, which can be reached by phone or email, and the authority also offers a toll-free line.
