Description
Groot Constantia is the oldest wine-producing estate in South Africa, set in the Constantia Valley on the southern slopes of Table Mountain in Cape Town. The estate was established in 1685 by Simon van der Stel, the Dutch governor of the Cape, and its sweet Constantia wines became famous in Europe in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Today the estate is a popular visitor attraction and a key stop on the Constantia Wine Route. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings and cellar tours, explore the historic Cape Dutch manor house museum and the Cloete wine cellar, and walk through the vineyards and gardens. Groot Constantia also has restaurants for lunch and refreshments, and it hosts weddings, functions and events. The estate produces award-winning red, white and dessert wines, including its revived Grand Constance. Visitors can contact the estate by phone or email for tasting, tour and booking enquiries.
