Description
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden lies on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, off Rhodes Drive in Newlands, Cape Town. Founded in 1913 and managed by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), it is one of the best-known botanical gardens in the world and the first to be included in a natural World Heritage Site. The garden focuses on South Africa's indigenous plants, with collections of proteas, fynbos, cycads and succulents, a glasshouse conservatory and walking trails that lead up the mountain. Visitors enjoy the Tree Canopy Walkway, often called the Boomslang, picnic lawns, restaurants, gift shops and the popular summer sunset concerts. Kirstenbosch is a favourite stop for tourists, families and nature lovers visiting Cape Town. Visitors can contact the garden's information office by phone or email.
