Description
The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) is the government agency responsible for collecting taxes and customs duties on the Tanzanian mainland, with its head office in the Ilala central business district of Dar es Salaam. Established in 1996, it administers income tax, value added tax, excise duties, customs duties at ports and border posts, motor vehicle registration and driving licence fees, and other national revenues. Taxpayers can register for a Taxpayer Identification Number, file returns and pay taxes online, and businesses use electronic fiscal devices to issue receipts. TRA also runs taxpayer education campaigns, publishes collection statistics and handles customs procedures at Dar es Salaam port and other entry points. It operates regional offices across the country and toll-free call centre lines. Individuals and companies can reach the head office by phone, WhatsApp or the services email for tax and customs enquiries.
